The dial string is `+254` followed by the Kenyan national number with the leading `0` dropped. Domestic toll-free lines starting `0800` do not connect from the UK. Most live numbers are Safaricom, Airtel Kenya, or Telkom mobiles.

To call Kenya from the UK, dial:

Drop the leading `0` from the Kenyan number. A Safaricom mobile printed as `0712 345678` is dialled as `+254 712 345678`. A Nairobi landline printed as `020 123 4567` is dialled as `+254 20 123 4567`.

Mobile vs landline

Kenyan mobiles are 10 digits nationally and start with `07` or `01`. After dropping the leading `0`, dial `+254` plus 9 digits (for example `+254 712 …` or `+254 110 …`). Safaricom still carries most traffic; Airtel and Telkom fill the rest. Portability means the prefix is not a hard network identity.

Landlines use geographic codes. Nairobi is `20` internationally (`+254 20 …`). Mombasa uses `41`, Kisumu `57`, Eldoret `53`. The national numbering plan follows the [ITU E.164](https://www.itu.int/dms_pub/itu-t/opb/sp/T-SP-E.164D-11-2011-PDF-E.pdf) listing.

Best calling windows

Kenya uses East Africa Time (UTC+3) year-round. The UK is 3 hours behind in winter and 2 hours behind in BST.

The best window for Nairobi helplines is `09:00-11:30` EAT, early in the working day. That maps to `06:00-08:30` GMT or `07:00-09:30` BST.

Avoid `13:00-15:00` EAT (late UK morning in summer). Queues at banks and public agencies thicken after lunch, and agent availability dips before the evening close.
