How to call Pakistan from the US in 2026

Use +92 and drop Pakistan's leading 0. Karachi uses +92 21, Lahore +92 42, Islamabad +92 51. Do not assume an 0800 number will work from the US today.

Pakistan's country code is +92. From the US, dial +92 then the Pakistani number with the domestic leading 0 dropped. A Karachi landline printed as 021 XXX XXXX is +92 21 XXX XXXX. A Lahore landline printed as 042 XXX XXXX is +92 42 XXX XXXX. An Islamabad landline printed as 051 XXX XXXX is +92 51 XXX XXXX. A Pakistani mobile printed as 03XX XXX XXXX is +92 3XX XXX XXXX. Do not keep the trunk 0: +92 021 is a misdial.

How to dial

Use one of these origin formats:

  • ›+92 plus the national significant number (usual on a mobile)
  • ›011 92 plus the same digits from a US landline that still needs the North American international prefix

011 is the US international access prefix in FCC consumer guidance. + is a substitute on many mobiles. Do not assume every device accepts the same input.

More numbers: call Pakistan. Area codes: Pakistan calling codes.

The ITU E.164 list assigns 92 to Pakistan. Pakistan's PTA numbering plan filed with the ITU (communication of 9 November 2021) sets the national trunk prefix to 0, lists mobile NSNs in the 3A XXXXXXXX pattern at 10 digits, and lists fixed NDCs including Karachi 21, Lahore 42, and Islamabad / Rawalpindi 51. A prefix is a format hint, not proof of the current network after number portability.

Cost

Calling Pakistan from the US is an international call from home, not roaming in Pakistan.

  • ›If the US plan lists Pakistan in an inclusive international allowance, the handset can be the cheaper option. Check the destination list, not a generic "international" label.
  • ›If it does not, a carrier pay-per-minute add-on is a different product from a browser-to-phone rate. Confirm the carrier's own tariff before comparing.
  • ›WorldDial rates in September 2026: $0.21/min to landlines and $0.24/min to mobiles, in USD. Calls are billed in whole minutes, rounded up. Check the current rate for your number on rates before adding credit.

If Pakistan is already in your US calling allowance, use your handset. If it is not, you can place the call in the browser. How calling works: how it works.

When 0800 is the wrong number

The PTA plan filed with the ITU lists national toll-free numbers under NDC 800. Do not assume a domestic 0800 number will work from the US. Use a geographic or other paid number the organisation publishes for callers outside Pakistan. Habib Bank Limited contacts for overseas callers are on Habib Bank Limited (HBL) from abroad.

Time difference

Pakistan uses Pakistan Standard Time (UTC+5) year-round. US Eastern uses EST (UTC-5) and EDT (UTC-4). Pakistan is usually 9 or 10 hours ahead of Eastern time, depending on whether the US is on standard or daylight time.

Use the office hours on the page you are calling. A general country guide cannot predict queue length.

Format mistakes to avoid

  • ›Keeping 021 after +92 (Karachi must be +92 21)
  • ›Treating a domestic 0800 number as an international contact
  • ›Confusing roaming in Pakistan with an international call placed from the US
