How to call Turkey from the US in 2026

Use +90 and drop Turkey's leading 0. Istanbul splits +90 212 and +90 216. Do not assume an 800 number will work from the US. Check live rates before you call.

Turkey's country code is +90. From the US, dial +90 then the 10-digit national significant number without the domestic leading 0. An Istanbul European-side landline printed as 0212 XXX XX XX is +90 212 XXX XX XX. An Istanbul Anatolian-side landline printed as 0216 XXX XX XX is +90 216 XXX XX XX. A Turkish mobile printed as 05XX XXX XX XX is +90 5XX XXX XX XX. Do not keep the trunk 0: +90 0212 is a misdial.

How to dial

Use one of these origin formats:

  • ›+90 plus the number with the leading 0 dropped (usual on a mobile)
  • ›011 90 plus the same digits from a US landline that still needs the North American international prefix

011 is the US international access prefix in FCC consumer guidance. + is a substitute on many mobiles. Do not assume every device accepts the same input.

More numbers: call Turkey. Area codes: Turkey calling codes.

The ITU E.164 list assigns 90 to Turkey. Turkey's ITU national numbering plan (ICTA communication of 2 March 2018) sets national significant numbers at 10 digits. NDC 212 is Istanbul (European part); NDC 216 is Istanbul (Anatolian part). Several 5xx NDCs are listed as mobile. A prefix is a format hint, not proof of the current network (number portability is implemented).

Cost

Calling Turkey from the US is an international call from home, not roaming in Turkey.

  • ›If the US plan lists Turkey in an inclusive international allowance, the handset can be the cheaper option. Check the destination list, not a generic "international" label.
  • ›If it does not, a carrier pay-per-minute add-on is a different product from a browser-to-phone rate. Confirm the carrier's own tariff before comparing.
  • ›WorldDial rates in September 2026: $0.09/min to landlines and $0.35/min to mobiles, in USD. Calls are billed in whole minutes, rounded up. Check the current rate for your number on rates before adding credit.

If Turkey is already in your US calling allowance, use your handset. If it is not, you can place the call in the browser. How calling works: how it works.

When 800 is the wrong number

Turkish NDC 800 is listed in the ITU plan as freephone. Do not assume a domestic toll-free number will work from the US. Use the number the organisation publishes for international callers.

Ziraat Bankasi contacts for overseas callers are on Ziraat Bankasi from abroad.

Time difference

Turkey uses TRT (UTC+3) year-round. Versus US Eastern that is usually 7 hours ahead in summer (EDT, UTC-4) and 8 hours ahead in winter (EST, UTC-5).

Use the office hours on the page you are calling. A general country guide cannot predict queue length.

Format mistakes to avoid

  • ›Keeping the domestic 0 (+90 212, not +90 0212)
  • ›Using 212 for an Anatolian-side Istanbul number (216) without checking the printed NDC
  • ›Assuming an 800 number will work from the US
