Dial the US toll-free number on WorldDial as +1 and the 10 digits. WorldDial places that call from a US number, so the toll-free service can take it. You still pay WorldDial's US rate, $0.03/min in October 2026, billed per minute and rounded up. The dialer shows the price before you connect. Toll-free means the company you are calling pays its own phone bill inside the US. It does not make your WorldDial call free.

Which numbers this covers

US toll-free prefixes are 800, 833, 844, 855, 866, 877, and 888. The FCC toll-free guide lists those codes. On a US landline, the person placing the call is not charged. A wireless plan can still charge airtime unless the plan includes those minutes.

How to dial

  1. Enter +1 and the 10-digit toll-free number from the letter or website.
  2. Read the rate before a long hold. A 20-minute call at $0.03/min costs $0.60.
  3. If that number does not connect, use the overseas line the organisation publishes for the task.

A mobile plan may still refuse the same number. If a travel plan already includes cheap calls to US numbers, use that plan. Otherwise place the call in the browser. Country context: call the USA. Related failure modes: premium numbers not working from abroad. Check the number on rates before you add credit.

When a toll-free number still fails

On 4 October 2026, tested voice numbers in these prefixes connected at the US rate. A voice call to Medicare's TTY line +1 877 486 2048 did not connect. Use +1 800 633 4227 for Medicare voice support. Medicare publishes that voice line for billing and claims questions, and lists the TTY line separately, on its contact page.

Lines published for people outside the US

Use the line the agency publishes for the task. Those calls are paid at the same US rate.

Before a long hold

  • ›Have the account number, notice, or Medicare details the line will ask for
  • ›Call during the hours that organisation publishes
  • ›Keep the laptop awake and the microphone unmuted for the phone menu
  • ›If the toll-free number does not connect, switch to the overseas line

FAQs

Why is a US 800 number not free on this call?

On a US landline, the caller is not charged for a toll-free number. The company being called pays for that inbound call. This call still costs $0.03/min. A mobile plan may treat the number differently.

Do I dial a special access number?

No. Dial the company's own toll-free number as +1 and the 10 digits. There is no single number that reaches every US toll-free line.

Should I use the IRS or Social Security overseas line?

Yes, when that is the line the agency publishes for people outside the US. The IRS line is +1 267-941-1000. Social Security's International Call Center is +1 855-522-6936. Both are paid at the US rate.
